The Fourth Generation
Mary McCool, the eldest daughter of
James and Catherine, married Patrick Duggan, a captain of
one of the steamships that travelled the Ottawa River and made Fort William one of their
stops. He was originally from Ireland and had been married previously. When he came to
Canada he brought his first wife and adopted daughter, Tess, who eventually became the
Mother Superior of a religious order in Quebec. Mary and Patrick had one child, Charlie Duggan.
