The Fourth Generation
Charles McCool was a businessman, entrepreneur and politician. He was involved in lumbering,
mining and railroads in Northern Ontario as well as being the reeve and postmaster of
Mattawa, Ontario. He was the two-time Member of Parliament representing the riding of
Nipissing from 1900 until 1908. According to the Parliametary Guide of the time he was
educated in the "public schools of Chichester and Sheen in Pontiac County". His
marriage to Justine O'Meara of Pembroke resulted in 7 children. He appears to have had a nomadic
existence moving throughout Northern Ontario, to Ottawa and finally to Pembroke. Of the 7
children Francis died in infancy, Michael became a Trappist monk and
Justin and Margaret never married. The eldest son, Joseph, was married but had no children.
