The Fourth Generation
James McCool Jr., the eldest child of James and Catherine, appears to have taken
over the farm in Chichester when his father bought Fort William and moved there. He farmed
the land but also worked for the Quebec government as a "bush ranger". He
married Barbara Poupore and they had 6 children. He died at the young age of 38 leaving his
widow with 5 young children. One child, Victor, had died in
infancy earlier. Another, Billy, died the day before his 18th
birhday as the result of a sawmill accident when his arm was severed and he bled to death.
The two youngest children, Jamie and Mary, never married.
