Finn McCool
was an Ulster tribal chieftan and commander of the King of Ireland's warriors. He was
renowned in Ireland for his fighting ability and for his strength. What he could do is
limited only by one's imagination! It was said that Finn could pick thorns out of his
heels while running. And once during a fight with a Scottish giant, he scooped up a huge
clod of earth and flung it at his fleeing rival. The clod fell into the sea and turned
into the Isle of Man. The hole it left filled up with water and became Lough Neagh, the
largest lake in Ireland. All of these stories about Finn, and many more too, are certified
as true according to the highest standards of Irish storytelling. For certain, he stands
tall in the annals of Irish myth and legend.
